From parents and grandparents laps to a laptop. New Bronze LM's way...

February, 2022
By Steven Highfill

I played my first bridge hands on my parents and grandparents laps at family gatherings just before being sent off to bed. Family and social bridge continued unabated for years. I tried a few ACBL sanctioned games and tournaments over the years but life prevented me from getting into the deep end of the pool until nearing retirement. My work colleague Joe Wright introduced me to club play a few years ago and we also played the local tournaments with some success. The introduction of ACBL on–line games due to the covid–19 shutdown of in–person play has greatly improved my opportunities and the majority of the points I've earned have come in the past couple of years. That said, I look forward to getting back to in–person play at least some of the time. I enjoy the friendly competition and plan to continue to play and, hopefully, improve my skills in retirement.
